League of Legends: Clash of Fates

League of Legends: Clash of Fates

What happens when you take DotA out of the game? No, you don’t get Demigod, but rather League of Legends.

Coming to you from Guinsoo, the founder of DotA, we would like to present to you.. League of Legends. A game that has been in production for approximately 2 years by Riot games.

What Guinsoo did when he left the DotA scene was not get hit by a bus or die slowly, but rather he go underground and form Riot games.

Guinsoo then recruited people from the following games to help him:

* Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne,
* World of Warcraft,
* Total Annihilation,
* Neverwinter Nights 2,
* Counter-Strike,
* Dungeon Siege,
* Sly Cooper, and
* Heroes of Might and Magic

Ok, now that we have a pretty good idea about the developers, we have the main questions:

1)What is league of Legends?

2) What separates it from Dota and Demigod?

Most gamers off of the DotA fan base will know, and understand the concept behind the game, but for those new to it, the players will play as a summoner who does not physically go into the field, but instead summon a Champion and control him/her. They must then fight enemy monsters and Champions as a team, with the goal being to crush the enemy.

So what separates this from DotA? Well, the summoners accumulate more influence and experience the more you play  unlocking access to additional Champions, options, abilities, items and more. Summoner abilities will improve as you level up, and they can be used in addition to the abilities of a Champion, to your benefit.

Now DotA allows you to only take the online experience so far, after each game you start all over again with no pluses or minuses. With the LoL concept you will now want to keep playing, as you will have something to look forward to at the end of the dark tunnel.

So what they have done is essentially created a league of their own. It combines concepts from RTS, MMORPGS, and it is said that they have also obtained a class concept from CoD4.

Riot have created a game with awesome graphics and an engaging multi-player experience. Now after 2 years of development the only thing on their minds is “let’s beta test this game and launch it.”

Here are some in game scenes to give you a feel of what is to come:

    Looks good.. Gonna be quite the dota rival…

    Looks to be quite the interesting one :D Waiting to see how it turns out. Also curious if it will make the usual ‘split’ of the community, such as DotA players moving to League of Legends etc, or will it become the new DotA entirely?
    Interesting rival.

    Could be a monumental failure or an epic success. There is no middle ground. I really hope this works out, giving “DotA” a bright future. The game has forked so far from W3 that it really does belong on it’s own platform. By this, I mean that all the functionality DotA provides is severely hampered by the limitations of Warcraft. Collecting stats, hosting games.. it’s all very primitive — it would be sooo much cooler if the server/client was designed with “DotA” support and extensibility in mind; and this is exactly the aim of League of Legends.

    I am wondering about the MMORPGS.Dota is much like cs or other competitive games due to the whole every game starts over with the best to the worst player having the same playing field.But I am the best for the game

    I am really looking forward to this. I just hope we can get a method of playing it in SA without any lag.

    Interested to see how close the game will continue to relate to DotA – there are just some fundamentals which were integral to DotA’s success and addictive playability that they would really have to think hard and design even harder in order to avoid or replace them. Something like fog, for instance.
    Although, I thought one of DotA’s strong points was that it was very much a “pick-up and play” game. It will be interesting to see how League of Legends’ idea of continuation beyond the score screen will work out.

    I think a big problem that we might face is if we have to connect internationally. But otherwise im loving this game

    if they did that itd kill there games popularity, at least on a local level. this is a tricky one id love to see pulled off.
