Gamers Unite – Online Petition against the MSSA

Gamers Unite – Online Petition against the MSSA

At the moment computer gaming in South Africa is facing a big problem, namely the MSSA. For those who are not familiar with this horrible organisation, they are the ones who can ‘award’ both National and Provincial colours for computer gaming.

The problem which we are facing is that the MSSA wants full power, and in order to obtain this they will do anything.

In regards to the MSSA wanting power, gamers have now started to take a stand against this organisation and its growth.

The first boycott started when the Call of Duty 4 teams decided to not enter the leagues. It was then followed by the OC & OGA meeting where players asked the OC and the OGA to remove all affiliation with the MSSA. We can now say that it has been taken to the next level, where gamers have created an online petition – available here – in order to ‘self regulate’.

Here’s a short piece from the petition:

This document serves as a positioning statement for the PC and console gaming community of South Africa on its desire to self regulate.

The document discusses the current federation, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), which currently has the power to run federated leagues and award school, provincial and national colours as well as put forward gamers’ names to the Protea Board of Control for Protea Colours.

The document outlines the reasons behind the gaming community’s desire to no longer fall under the MSSA and its plans for self regulation.

Everyone that wants to sign the petition may do so freely, and remember there is no pressure from us to sign it. :)

this petition is really getting going. I see over 100 people signed it in a span off 1:30 hours. I really am for this petition, promotes more control to the gamers instead of the evil suits (:D). But then again they should include in the final council 1 or 2 suits that know the ropes/if they can get gamers that know the ropes

I don’t get it. All sports are ruled by these types of organisations. What makes gaming any different? The “boards” and the “suit’s” and all the bureaucracy is just a way of life, and that is, ultimately, what rules the modern world. If you don’t like it, you are approaching a much bigger issue than just the MSSE. Besides, gamers couldn’t manage something like this. It is not their expertise. Yes if there were people involved in this line of work, who happened to be gamers, that would be the ideal situation – but it is not a reality. IMO this whole opposition to the MSSA is not realistically thought-out, and just shows how much the gaming community lacks perspective and maturity.

This will only worsen the SA gaming situation. Theres an interesting post on their forum atm under general discussions and I have to say I agree with the guys going against this petition 100%.

How do they expect that a handful of nominees can represent the voices of all South African gamers and not only the 10 largest clans in SA that nominated their own guys. It will only result in unfair treatment towards the other clans in SA and raise the question of fair play at championships.

LOL what are they smoking? They don’t even have 700 sigs and their already nominating the committee. I wonder how Deny of those sigs was signed without knowing the true impact this will have on SA gaming if it ever passed and how many sigs have been falsified as that is really easy to do.

    The Petition

“This document serves as a positioning statement for the PC and console gaming community of South Africa on its desire to self regulate.”

one of their replies on the petition forum

“Its not the community’s job to run their tournaments for them”

Am I the only one that sees the funny in this. They strive to self regulate this and then complain that its not the communities job to do this.
