Lame Study Of the Day: Video Gamers Show Addictive Behaviour

It was reported that about one in ten video game players show addictive behaviour which could have negative effects on their family, friends and dare we say it.. school work.

The study was done in the USA where it was reported that gamers show at least six symptoms of gambling addition such as lying to family and friends. The gamers are said to lie about how much they play games, as they use it to escape life, and its problems.

They also skip homework to play games. OH NO???

“While the medical community currently does not recognise video game addiction as a mental disorder, hopefully this study will be one of many that allow us to have an educated conversation on the positive and negative effects of video games,” Dr Douglas Gentile, an assistant professor of psychology at ISU, said in a statement.

Apparently addicted gamers play video games about 24 hours a week, which is twice as much as casual gamers. Same gamers even steal to support their habits…

“While video games can be fun and entertaining, some kids are getting into trouble. I continue to hear from families who are concerned about their child’s gaming habits. Not only do we need to focus on identifying the problem, but we need to find ways to help families prevent and treat it,” said Walsh.

Whatever. Who cares. We’re gamers, and we’re happy.
