Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Multiplayer Revealed

At last all of the rumours and hints can be done away with, because today it was finally confirmed that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will, indeed, feature multiplayer. The multiplayer component of Uncharted 2 is split into two parts, namely co-op and competitive. The co-op mode caters for 2-3 players and was said to be an entirely different campaign from the single player mode, but whether there is both offline and online co-op is still unclear. The competitive side of the game, takes players into five-on-five battles with multiple game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, an original CTF (capture the flag) mode and a few others still yet to be revealed.

The exciting thing, however, is that the multiplayer experience is looking exceptionally good at this point due to the Uncharted 2 gameplay itself. To elaborate, players will be able to do things like climb buildings Assassin’s Creed style which could allow for better sniping points, melee kill opponents in hilarious ways such as pulling them off a cliff while you’re hanging from it, throw propane tanks into the air and shoot them for a multi-kill and escape heated areas while still returning fire – Uncharted 1 style. Another example of the fun-factor, is that in the CTF mode, players will be able to actually throw the ‘objective’ to each other, (or toss it away), which could really add a lot more team statergy into the mix, especially since some Return Points were said to be located on cliffs or in ditches.

The first trailer is a 4 minute long interview which explains what both modes consist of and some of the ideas behind them, while the second trailer is 2 minutes of full-on gameplay footage. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is one of 2009′s most anticipated titles for PS3 owners. With the revelation of multiplayer, there’s bound to be a large increase in the excitement levels, because Naughty Dog have already said that Uncharted 2′s single player mode will be longer than the first game, ultimately meaning that this sequel might be a game that’s going to last you a very long time. There is some concern amongst gamers that the addition of multiplayer might lessen the single player experience somewhat, but I say not to worry, because Naughty Dog have already proven that they know exactly what they’re doing.
