Various sources, such as PSU and GamesIndustry, indicate that Sony will be lowering the price of the PlayStation 3 later this year. The speculated time is around the month of September, which is much closer than most originally thought. Note that no official announcement from Sony has been made yet and neither are there any details regarding the new price of the machine. There is also speculation that Sony will be revealing the rumoured “PS3 Slim” around the same time, but there are no firm details to confirm any of these claims.
This is slightly surprising to be honest, because recently Sony announced that they will have a price cut on the PS3 “when the time is right”. They gave no word on when that time may be, but it seems like it could be sooner than we all thought. Still, a price cut sounds great right about now, so keep in touch until more information becomes available on this subject.
