PS3 Slim revealed, original PS3 to receive a price cut
At a press conference today at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, Sony officially revealed the heavily rumoured PlayStation 3Â Slim console. SCEI President and CEO Kaz Hirai have said that the Slim model will have the same specs as the 120GB PS3 model currently on the market, but the Slim will be 33% smaller and 36% lighter. The release, while naturally depending on the region, will be available worldwide on the 1st of September this year. The PS3 Slim will cost $299 (which comes to approximately R2405.61 – note that this price will be higher in South Africa) which I would say is a fair deal to those that do not yet, but wish to have, a PlayStation 3. To make things even better, Sony have announced that a $100 (roughly R800) price drop would be put into effect for all current PlayStation 3 models on the market (the 80GB and 160GB overseas – I’m not 100% sure of the details for South Africa) which is excellent news. Unfortunately I can’t give any solid details yet on the new price of the PS3 after the price cut and neither can I supply a confirmed price for the PS3 Slim. Keep in touch for further details, but I guess this article needs a last word for PS3 owners, and it goes thus: There are no more rumours, the PS3 Slim is now a reality. Short and sweet.
