Final Fantasy XIII aiming for Western release in Spring 2010

Upcoming, highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII from Square Enix has already been confirmed to be releasing in Japan on the 17th of December 2009. That’s great and all, but Final Fantasy fans have been itching to hear the details regarding a confirmed, Western release date, and it seems that the question of a Western release date has finally been answered – quite vaguely. Speaking at a Final Fantasy XIII event in Tokyo, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada said: “In the past, it’s taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this Spring.” It should be noted that Yoichi said “international release” which hopefully means what it says, that we in South Africa (well if Europe gets it the same time as America…) might just see the game release around the same time as America. “Spring” is quite vague for a release date for a title as anticipated as FFXIII, but let it be known that Square Enix promised that details regarding the international release of the game are “upcoming”. I guess we’ll just have to take their word on that. Stay tuned for more details on Final Fantasy XIII as they come.

Furthermore, in all vagueness, Square Enix revealed that there will be a Final Fantasy XIII PS3 bundle that includes the newly released PlayStation 3 Slim Edition and a copy of Final Fantasy XIII. The unfortunate part is that firstly there are no further details regarding this (such as price, bonus content etc) and secondly this bundle has only been confirmed for Japan so far. Square Enix are being pretty quiet about all this, but the good news is that they promised that all will be revealed in due time. Most likely these questions will be answered at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks time. We’ll be sure to fill you in on the finer details then.
