Bayonetta Release Date Announced

Bayonetta Release Date Announced

It was revealed today that Bayonetta, the stylish beat em’ up action game, will release on the 5th of January 2010 in North America and on the 8th of January in Europe. So you can expect the game to release in South Africa around that time. Essentially, Bayonetta is PlatinumGames’ successor to the Devil May Cry series. After all, it is crafted by Hideki Kamiya, the creator of DMC, which, coupled together with the similar, over the top, stylish action gameplay, is evidence enough of this claim. Basically, in the game, you take on the role of Bayonetta “after being entombed in a coffin sunk in the bottom of the lake” for 500 years “with no memory of anything but her witchcraft.” Attempting to describe how strangely this woman fights would be quite difficult to put in words (she has guns attached to her feet and uses her hair to attack – I’m not joking), so if you need a mental image, picture Devil May Cry’s action gone completely bonkers or, for a more formal term, mentally unbalanced. Apparently, this game made its debut in Japan and achieved a perfect 40/40 score by the Famitsu magazine, making it their 12th game in history to receive a perfect score. However, it should be noted that the PlayStation 3 version of the game [conveniently, inexplicably, or rather inevitably] scored 38/40, which is two points less than the Xbox360 version.

For some more clarity, check out Famitsu’s history of perfect scores:

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
  2. Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
  3. Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., Ltd., for PlayStation)
  4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo for Nintendo GameCube)
  5. Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
  6. Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
  7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)
  8. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008, Konami, for PlayStation 3)
  9. 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de (2008, Sega, for Wii)
  10. Dragon Quest IX (2009, Square Enix, for Nintendo DS)
  11. Monster Hunter Tri (2009, Capcom, for Wii)
  12. Bayonetta (2009, Sega, for Xbox 360)

Look out for Bayonetta on the 5th of January, in North America, and the 8th of January, in Europe, 2010 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox360.
