Modern Warfare 2′s Third Person mode is no rumour

Modern Warfare 2′s Third Person mode is no rumour

Yesterday we posted an article, which included a gameplay video of it, that covered a rumour regarding Modern Warfare 2′s Third Person mode. Today we discover, from Infinity Ward, that yesterday’s relevation is no rumour and a third person gameplay mode will, in fact, feature in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The third person mode has been confirmed to be limited to the game’s multiplayer mode and, to clear up what this means, here are Infinity Ward’s official words, or rather Robert Bowling’s words, the creative strategist of IW, on the matter: “3rd Person is a new playlist mode in Multiplayer. So you can play your favorite playlists [or] game types, like Team Deathmatch just standard, or in Hardcore mode ([with] limited HUD and increased bullet damage) or in the new 3rd Person mode, which means you and everyone in the game is in 3rd person. When you’re in a 3rd Person playlist you can’t toggle in and out, you’re always in 3rd person. You can’t toggle 3rd person view on or off in a standard game type either, people in 3rd person can’t play with people in 1st person, they’re entirely different game modes. This is just another way to play the game.”

Basically, there are separate multiplayer modes, that will feature in Modern Warfare 2, which are purely dedicated to third person, meaning that you, along with all other players who are in the game will be in third person. As was said by Robert Bowling you won’t be able to choose [in-game] whether you want to play in 3rd person or 1st person – it all depends on the server you join, so your choice comes in before you’re actually in a game. While I think that the majority of the players will prefer to play in 1st person, as usual, this is interesting news because it adds an additional game mode, 3rd person mode, to the mix, which is basically another game mode and feature for the online component of Modern Warfare 2, resulting in you being able to play two games in one (1st person and 3rd person).

So that puts this rumour to rest – confirming it as true. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on the 10th of November for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox360. Although with the cancellation of the PC version’s dedicated server support, among other issues, I, personally, option-wise, am geared more towards getting the PS3 version of the game – but that all depends on the size of the PS3za community (as well as the world’s verdict for the game itself) for Modern Warfare 2 of course. Still, if the PC version turns out (or eventually turns out) to be similar to that of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (in terms of its online mode) then I’ll definitely reconsider but, at this point in time, I’m skeptical regarding Modern Warfare 2 – especially the PC version.

This is like WTF mode for DotA :P

Something really different.. Not everyone likes it but it does attract a few nutters.

Then again similar to the removal of prone from Bad Company 2, this might just be something nice, new and unique.

Games are definitely changing for the better.. Players just need moar!

  • Tody

Bad Company 2 didn’t remove prone, it’s just exclusive to the PC version of the game :P

But as for being the WTF mode, hahaha you might be right about that :D It’s definitely interesting! Playing CoD in third person that is. Besides, it’s just an extra mode that you can play in if you want to, it doesn’t really effect the fundamental structure of the game at all – it’s just an addition. :)

    Yeah, games are awesome :P

Dood! Yeah exclusive for PC, however it’s changed just for the PC.. Meaning that PC could be back to the top in competitiveness..

Along with BC2 awarding exclusivity, these COD okes are also trying something new..

    Ahhh which one will work!

Seems pretty interesting, figured that it’d only be for multiplayer but maybe their testing the waters for an Infinity Ward TPS. Who knows? Anyway seems to give you more value for money, which is something that doesn’t happen often these days.

No, relation to this article but still sort of mildly interesting. I just realised that that the guy who did the score for Dark Knight, remember how well the music set the atmosphere in there? Well he’s doing the score for MW2 as well. Nice.
