Uncharted 2 outsold Drake’s Fortune, first DLC coming soon

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, sequel to Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, was released this month, exclusively for the PlayStation 3, and it was massively succesful. The developers, Naughty Dog, have revealed that Among Thieves has outdone its predecessor by a milestone, both in sales and performance (ratings). The incredibly well received title is currently “exceeding expectations”, according to Naughty Dog. Moving on, Naughty Dog’s creative director, Amy Hennig, commented on the game’s highly successful sale count with the following: “I would definitely say it’s exceeding expectations. Being in the industry for a while you learn to try to manage your expectations because you’d rather be surprised with good news than disappointed. It’s a tough business, but from the early numbers I’ve seen getting reported back it’s exceeded any estimates we had internally, and it’s certainly outsold the first game by many, many times. That and the critical reception so far has been really gratifying.”

Regarding the DLC, Amy Hennig confirmed that the first downloadable content pack for Uncharted 2 will be released before 2010, which means we’ll be seeing it before the 31st of December. It was also confirmed that the content packs would be a mix of free and purchasable content. Amy Hennig commented on DLC with the following: “Without going into specifics, it’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable. We’ve got a lot of people on the team working on this stuff, some really cool stuff that people will be excited about.”

Finally, Nolan North, the voice actor of Nathan Drake, the protagonist in Uncharted, has revealed (or accidentally revealed) that Naughty Dog “desperately want to do a third game”. Naughty Dog have previously said that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves does not wrap up Drake’s story and that future sequels are always a possibility, so this news doesn’t come across as a shock. If Naughty Dog can consistently keep up their high standards with the Uncharted games, then I’m all for sequels – just not too many of course. Regarding the DLC, I find this news very exciting – I don’t need more incentive to play Uncharted 2 online :D
