not so much the "free" though,

1st of all, its hard to get a (legal) version of warcraft III since, if you can buy it at all, you have to dig in the classic or golden oldies section LOL

HoN is $30, thats not a lot, about R250~300. Plus, you dont need to go and get the game in a store, since youre basically buying an account, not the game

I have to agree with GrIdL0cK on this. HoN has a future in SA, esp if AGASA is gonna support it. IMO Dota has no real future. That said, to each his own. I prefer HoN to Dota. @KisS: I think you're a LOL and an unQ to be honest. You are a typical example of why i dont play Dota anymore. So fucking NARROWMINDED! Anyway had my say. Hope ppl still enjoy Twilight and what they offer. As for me...HoN all the way

kwagga, i find that really strange that you are willing to put money into dota but you complain about hon using too much cap? why not increase your cap size, im sure it will work out far cheaper than sponsoring a dota compo :P

well to be honest i do like hon but the only thing from keeping me to play is that it uses to much cap, and that does not work for me.

but i dont see why we can play dota on a competive level and hon, how much money does dota need? pm me Nirate maybe we can talk.

This is where the learning curve comes into play. Only reason why you can see whats happening in battle is because you are not used to the animations of the spells etc. Learn the animations, learn the character skills. Some aspects about hon seem overpowered but thats why the beta testers are there to complain and get the developers to change whats necessary. Hon is the way forward. It can get proper sponsorship and thats why i will support it 100%

If DotA had proper sponsorship, it would be a lot more popular and competitive, but that doesn't change the fact that there are still tons of players that still play dota for the love of it. The number of users on Twilight everyday proves this.

I tried HoN, and tbh I felt like it was over done, and imbalanced (but as time goes by it will get more balanced with new patches etc). The biggest problem for me, was the graphics, some of you may like it, but for a game like DotA, too much graphics just screws it up, as well as lame animations on spells. Such as Shadow Fiends Raze's etc... Perhaps I didn't give it time to get used to the game, I played about +- 10 games. Didn't enjoy it.

@Zer0cool, I disagree, it's not the ONLY reason, it might be a reason for some, but i'm sure there are others like me, that just prefer dota. At least you can see wtf is going on in DotA during a team battle.

The only reason why people prefer DotA to HoN is the fact that DotA = free & uses less bandwidth.

Well whats funny about that my friend is the company, S2, asked icefrog for permission to use the characters and the map before they even started developing so if the creator doesn't mind then you shouldn't either

I still think its pretty pathetic how another company, just copies a game like this like a carbon copy, just with better graphics (or so they say).

Gage that is what this is all about. The lack of sponsorships for DotA in the past, and how WE never had it (Note: South Africa only -- the reason for this post)

Now all of a sudden HoN gets everything, thats why people are sad.

The Problem with HoN atm is balance with its custom heroes. Also its PSR system is a bit like Twightlights' level system just not as well tuned and at 1500 PSR you are pretty much in the 0 - 15 level bracket on twilight. People worry about KD/ratio and prolong games at lower PSR ratings. It actually gets better with Higher PSR.
Epic sad things though are Igame servers are inadequate really and All S2 original heroes are severely unbalanced.

People are so scared of change. Well unfortunately it is bound to happen. You guys should be happy that HoN is here to take DotA's place.

Some of the other potential successors like LoL and Demigod, just don't have the right formula (at least in my opinion).

HoN is DotA HD. It's the spiritual successor. If you want to deny it, then no problem. Old game communities still work. Just don't expect competitive support or sponsorships.

Ok I downloaded HoN and got a key, I played 2 games, of about 70 min each at 2am which is <.

WAY TO SHINEY omfg I almost had a seizure first 10 min,

finding items is super hard unless you realise you can click on an item and then just buy its components from there

International players like to prolong a game because its '' fun '' they say. Like my team won both games i played but it takes us 70 min to finish cause those fools just farm and then shout B.

that dc rejoin thing is vrek cool not gona lie :).

Lina = a man now which is sad. but ye used up 70 megs of bandwidth with 2 games fml.

I'm not here to flame anyone (scant, DeMoNiK) but AGASA moving forward to a new game is actually a total breath of fresh air. They have discovered that DotA won't be supported by sponsors and that the majority of the community continue to behave like children.

To each his own, I did love my times in DotA, but am now loving HoN even more. Feel free to play whatever you guys want. I have nothing but the utmost respect and support for Twilight and I hope you guys continue doing the great job you always have been doing.

It's tough to say that the future is definately HoN with all the stuff that's otw still. Valve could be pushing something out, a mod could also be made for SC2, but let's hope not as the same WC3 limitations will apply. LoL is a total crock of sh1t, so let's ignore that. Over 36000 beta users at the moment, be interesting to see how those numbers pan out when the game gets officially launched and people need to buy the game.

Well done. International HoN Supporters have voted and backed up something they know NOTHING about.

This has nothing to do with DotA vs HoN as such.

Isn't there a way to block out international IP's or something, so they can't vote on this poll?

International guys, please leave the poll. It really doesn't affect you. :/

I went through 120mb of patching when I first played. I then had to redownload the game as a whole as the patcher wasnt working. I then had to still manually patch my game after that to be able to play because the patcher fix they claimed to have done wasnt working. I used up a total of about 1.2gb to get the little 350mb game working. If _anything_ goes wrong in the time I stop playing why the hell should I have to waste so much cap on it to get it working again?

I appreciate what they are doing, but they arent doing it the right way in my mind.

Tbh, i think the majority of people commenting with favour toward HON, are the sore losers that were spat out of DOTA because they were incapable of trying to learn its true inner workings and synergy..
but good luck, i hope the flame is worth it young moths.. just dont get too close..

You presented how playing HoN felt to YOU, which is completely objective and not factual in the least. The FACT is that HoN has many improvements over DotA that make it a better game than DotA.

If we're going to talk objectively, I didnt notice any bad controlling coming from DotA to HoN, if anything it got better.

Have fun with your DotA which by the nature of it being a game within a game, will never have as much base support as HoN does. HoN is at its beginning and is already better than DotA at its end. Get your head out of your ass.

And by cheap copy you mean vastly improved copy? Do I need to quote the multiple lists of features that HoN has that makes in superior in every way?

Just as I mentioned earlier, I came to HoN from playing DotA for 3-4 years (not at the professional level, but still...) and anyone who considers DotA a superior experience to HoN is lost in their fanboyism or just incredibly averse to change. Having played HoN for the past 3 months I can say with all certainty that it is a superior game in every way shape or form, and continues to get better as DotA heroes are ported over (which they are doing at a rate of about one every week or two now).

I currently play HoN and it is unfathomable to me as to why anyone on here would prefer dota to HoN other than pure fanboyism and aversion to change. I played DotA for 3-4 years (and TFT and RoC since launch) before moving to HoN with my group of friends. It is infinitely better as anyone can see from the multiple lists of better features in these comments.

I figure ill answer the second part of your question first, about the gateway editor. The way HoN works is that you load up the client, and log in with your account. You can then create a game or join a game from the list. Servers for creating a game (HoN games are hosted on remote servers and not on the host's PC, a superior function to DotA) can be filtered by region, so you can find the correct server for you, and even see its ping before you select it.

To answer the first part of your question, I went and checked the searchable regions of servers in HoN and yes, there is a "South African" region, so I can only assume there a good number of South African HoN servers available for playing.

You should get your facts straight before commenting the game with all the patches and the latest version the installer is currently a 350 mb download patches are usually 15-30mb at most.

There will always be those who scared of change, especially from a game as successful as Dota.

Hon is almost identical, it feels a little faster meaning Current dota pros will need a bit of practise with Hon before they are playing as well as they did in Dota.

Good Dota players who tried Hon and got owned will often be very critical of the game.

Those who have played hon beta for a while now will tell you that they cant go back to Dota (it just feels so much slower).

Hons Perks:
Can Reconnect after DC
Auto-AFK kick
Ingame Voice Chat (including Lane only Chat)
Improved Hero Selection
Stat Tracking
Matchmaking
Improved Shop
Better Graphics ofc
Built-in Banlist
Can play against International teams np.
New heroes not contrained by the War3 engine limits.
Smaller than 5v5 game brackets and different maps (This perk actually fails :P)
Only $30
Easy Keybinds
Proper Widescreen support
Auto-Team Balance with player locking
Better unit pathing
Dev team supports South African Community (This news item was posted on their official Twitter :<)
theres more but i cant really think of them right now :D

actually, you couldnt be further from the truth

I've stopped listening because I presented very precisely my why i think hon cannot match dota competitively and you replied with a very dismissive but super catchy quip or two.

its you who isn't listening [reading*] or if you are, YOUR mind is so set that you're missing the point

what a loser. No one listen to this guy. Seriously, if you still play DotA, its equivalent to playing Super Nintendo. Gosh, either grow a brain or go buy one if you aren't willing to EVOLVE into HoN. DotA Fanboys these days. They never grow up or grow out of the old.

Anyone that thinks this is bad obviously knows nothing about HoN. They basically re-created DotA in a newer better engine, it plays exactly like DotA, most of your favorite heroes from DotA are already there and they are porting new ones every 1-2 weeks (they have 56 or 57 heroes so far). When I say they port heroes from DotA I mean they have the exact same spells, damage, str/agi/int, str/agi/int gain, attack speed, projectile speed, attack range, EVERYTHING. Also the heroes they created themselves are awesome, and the graphics are awesome. Everyone DotA player that's played HoN that I've seen has been like "Oh, I didn't know it was exactly the same."

Yeah... right.... LoL is a good game, but any game that has bull crap micro transactions draining your pockets if you want an advantage over other players isn't OK with me.
