Gran Turismo 5 – How much did it cost to make?
It goes without saying that Gran Turismo 5 is a highly anticipated PS3 exclusive racer – one that has been in development for a long time now, especially when taking into account that Gran Turismo 4 came out in December of 2004 and GT 5: Prologue in April of 2008. Recently, a question was posed at Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi regarding the upcoming game’s budget, and with that he revealed that the cost of the game was currently at $60 million. Wow! That sure is a hell of a lot to us, but Kazunori Yamauchi went on to say that “There are other games that cost more. Considering the size and scale of the game, I think it’s probably a fairly small amount.” I guess he could be right about that, when looking at how awesome GT5 is looking right now, the cost sure seems to be worth it – and it could be as he says, that it’s a small amount to pay for the result. It could also mean the other thing, that the cost is low in comparison to other games, when taking into account that games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Too Human apparently had cost $100 million to make.
At this point in time we’re still waiting for a confirmed release date, but various websites and sources are pointing towards March of 2010, which seems more or less legit until proven otherwise. Furthermore, at the time of and during the interview where the budget revelation took place, Kazunori Yamauchi also revealed some interesting [technical] facts about this sequel, one of them being that each car in the game is made up of about 400 000 polygons, which is 100 times more than in GT4. Finally, when asked about a possible Gran Turismo 6, Kazunori Yamauchi replied: “Yes [Tody: as in 'yes' there will be a GT6]. You won’t have to wait as long as you did for GT5. GT5 represents a whole new operating system. GT6 is just new apps that run on the GT5 system.”
