Rumour Has It: inFAMOUS 2 With Online Multiplayer Support?

Rumour has it that inFAMOUS 2 will come out with an “online component” for multiplayer support. Sucker Punch is apparently looking for a few new staff members with multiplayer, and network knowledge in connection to an AAA title.

We are evaluating focused, easy to work with, and professional candidates to implement the on-line component for our forthcoming AAA title,” states the job listing. “Building on-line components of video games is a major plus.”
As far as we know, the only AAA title from Sucker Punch, for the PS3, is in fact inFAMOUS. We know that the game is already in development, and the company definitely wants a franchise out of this.

Moreover, it seems like single player games are being pushed out with multiplayer support — see BioShock & Dead Space.

The only thing is, how is this single player game going to work in multiplayer?

“The only thing is, how is this single player game going to work in multiplayer?”

    Now that’s a puzzle ;-)

I enjoyed the first game, loved it in fact (mainly because of the gripping and awesome story), but I felt that it was a bit too shallow in its gameplay. That said, I am interested in hearing about the sequel, the first game was definitely a great start.

Personally though, I hope this rumour isn’t true, because multiplayer thrown into single player games generally don’t turn out all that good. Well,. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, for instance, can be seen as the exception to my claim, but I feel that if inFamous 2 SHOULD have a multiplayer mode, it might be a good choice to bring co-op into the game.

Running around in an open world sandbox environment with a friend blowing stuff up and electrocuting each other sounds like a great deal of fun right now.

I understand where you comming from, but how well they excute the Multiplayer will be the decider.

I mean yes Running in an open world envirmoent will be super fun killing each other… but how big will this open world be and how much destuctable debrie(how ever you spell) will there be. also what exactly mode will they make in multiplayer…. Good vs evil, deathamatch.. Oh yay 1 mode… woopie.

True that, but there aren’t many options available for multiplayer with a game like inFamous – I think. Co-op could work, as I mentioned above, but the game just doesn’t need or suit multiplayer and I think Sucker Punch should spend their time improving the gameplay and doing all they can with it.

I guess you are right in saying that it all depends on how they implement it. Personally though, I don’t think they should bother. inFamous was a really good game, but it was shallow in its gameplay and I think they should focus on expanding that before they even attempt multiplayer. Still, we’ll see what happens.

In direct response to you, however: The city wasn’t enormous in inFamous, but it was a fairly big playground to explore and play around in. The environements couldn’t really be destroyed, as you’ll mostly just blow up cars and, well, people. There is room for improvement, tons in fact, so I just hope they go mad with the sequel.

How the hell is that going to work. Maybe two people max (Good  vs Evil  ), but any more and I can’t see it working.

    Maybe, just maybe…. Mario Brothers!
