Final Fantasy XIII’s First-Day Sales – Holy Fu-dge
Final Fantasy XIII was released in Japan on the 17th of December – yesterday. Today, one day later, Square Enix have revealed the sales figures for the game during the 24 hour time period. It goes without saying that the game did amazingly well at retail, on its first day – and it’s only in Japan at the moment! Square Enix revealed that in the first 24 hours of Final Fantasy XIII being released, the game’s sales figures has “exceeded one million”. This news was revealed in a statement released by Square Enix today, which also informs us that the PS3 “Lightning Edition” Bundles, that come with copies of Final Fantasy XIII, sales were not included in that figure of over one million. If you do take the games sold via the Lightning Edition into account, then the figure would be a little bit higher.
Square Enix stated yesterday that two million copies of Final Fantasy XIII had been shipped to retailers. That means that more than half of the stock has been depleted. I think a round of applause needs to be given to Square Enix here. This just makes me even more excited to see how well the game performs in western regions.
