Ubisoft Announces new Prince of Persia Game – God Save Us All
With the Prince of Persia movie incoming, Ubisoft have just announced a brand new game in the [completed] Prince of Persia series to bring it back from the dead and throw it into the hype machine. This new game in the Sands of Time storyline, titled Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, will release alongside the movie. At this point, we’re not sure if the game will be based entirely on the movie, right down to the actors, or if it will merely be a backdrop to the movie’s story, but what we do know is that the game will feature “fan-favorite elements from the original series,” along with some new gameplay additions and innovations. Whether you’re going to believe that seemingly bold claim is entirely up to you. For better or worse, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that the game will cater for both casual and hardcore gamers. “The goal is to reach both audiences, the core and casual gamers. It will be a game that will have lots of combat, with the possibility for gamers that are not as good – a level for beginners. In that sense we are trying to cover both groups.”
The original Sands of Time Trilogy were probably amongst the best gaming series’ ever made and it really pains me to see it being revived merely to further hype another game-to-movie cash in. Either way, I guess it’s too early to judge so let’s see what Ubisoft are offering with this new game in the series. The Prince of Persia movie and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, the video game, will be released in May of 2010 for both consoles and handhelds – although we don’t know which of them just yet.
