Will Modern Warfare 3 Ever Happen? Here Are The Facts, What Do You Think?

Modern Warfare 2 was released back in November and it was a gigantic success. I’m not going to go into all the details of how well it sold and how it’s currently more popular than KFC right now, but what I am going to discuss is the possibility of Modern Warfare 3. See, the common thought at the moment is what Infinity Ward’s next game will be, because it seems right now that they’re destined to make Call of Duty forever. However, before Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 was actually released, Infinity Ward were asked the question of whether or not Modern Warfare 3 will happen in the foreseeable future or not. Infinity Ward insisted that Modern Warfare 3 was currently not in development and, speaking to VideoGamer.com, community manager Robert Bowling said that Infinity Ward has “honestly no clue” what its next game will be.

Quite a while ago, back in June, Gearbox Software’s head guy Randy Pitchford was interviewing Robert Bowling, from Infinity Ward, and posed the question: “What else have you got? Can you give me something I haven’t seen before?”

An important question, I believe. It’s one that needs to be asked, especially when you consider Pitchford’s next statement:

“The folks that are innovating need to be rewarded so that the folks that are making big bets can take that risk. It’s too big of a risk for Infinity Ward to do anything but what they’re doing, because there’s too much value and there’s really big scope for it.”

Robert Bowling responded to Randy Pitchford’s statement by saying “eventually we’ll do something else.”

“When we feel like we can’t innovate any further in the Call of Duty franchise, then we’ll do something else. A lot of that mentality went into Modern Warfare 2. That’s why it’s Modern Warfare 2. It is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but you’ll never see that in game. We never call it that. It’s because we think of this as a new IP. This is our Modern Warfare 2 game. So we are constantly doing new stuff.

“We’re doing stuff in this game that you’ve never seen before, which is awesome. We’re going to new locations in single player that you’ve never seen before. We innovate in our own way. But yeah, eventually we’ll do something else, and it will be fun and it will be awesome and it will be fresh and it will be great.”

Keep in mind, readers, that the above interview was conducted before Modern Warfare 2 actually came out. Now if you take into consideration just how well Modern Warfare 2 actually did and how successful it currently is, you’ll see that Infinity Ward will really have to go to amazing lengths with Modern Warfare 3 to outdo it. However, when Robert Bowling was asked about Modern Warfare 3 and whether they were working on it, (since he had already said that they were not currently working on a new IP), he replied: “No. Honestly we have no clue what our next game is. I’m planning on taking a nap for three months. And then maybe I’ll wake up.”

Modern Warfare 2 was released in November and, if Robert Bowling is being serious about the three month thing, will we hear about their next project in February of 2010?

So in conclusion, I’m not entirely sure, judging from Modern Warfare 2′s current success and from the above information, that Modern Warfare 3 will happen anytime soon. I’m not completely writing it off, but I just don’t think it will happen in the foreseeable future. For us, mostly PC Gamers, in South Africa, Modern Warfare 2 was a letdown due to all of the features it lacked, such as dedicated servers, but the fact is that, all things considered, it is still a good game.

So I ask you, readers and Modern Warfare fans, do you think Modern Warfare 3 will happen – or not?
