eGameFame: The creative face behind Darksiders – Joe Madureira

As I log onto mIRC I get a message from the boss, you are to do Joe Madureira. I figured why not, as I did do research on him for my preview of Darksiders.

Ahh, the comic book legend Joe Madureira. Famous for work on Marvel Comics’ Uncanny X-Men and his creator-owned comic book Battle Chasers (which till today many fans eagerly await the release of #10 which sadly seems to be never reaching them).

Joe first started his career as comic book artist at the tender age of 16. As a student at the High School of Arts and Design in Manhattan, Madureira received an internship at Marvel comics. He met people who introduced him to other people resulting in him being a working comic professional by the age of 18.

He then went to form Tri-Lunar which would be his first steps into the gaming industry. His studio began work on a game called Dragonknight which would be canceled after the studio was closed down. He then moved to Realm Interactive another start-up company which was working on a game called Trade Wars: Dark Millenium, when Realm Interactive was acquired by NCSoft, Joe continued to contribute to the game as it evolved once again into Exarch, and was eventually released as Dungeon Runners.

Thereafter Mr. M left the games industry and once again entered into the comic book world again as the artist on Marvel’s The Ultimate’s 3. After working on a few of the comics he once again exited the comic book industry and re-entered the, yes you guessed it, gaming industry.

Joe is now with Vigil games busy producing Darksiders (which should be done, unless they are going to be doing DLC) and from there might stay onto produce the remaining part of the Darksiders series following the storylines of the remaining horseman (hopefully they decide to do this).

A very talented artist which I really had hoped would used his talents a bit more in Darksiders, if say he drew a few sketches which people had to find as achievements would really make it interesting, maybe we could see something like this in a later part of the series. But he has spent so much time working on War (the protagonist in Darksiders) that I think he deserves a break.
