Microsoft: No Need to Launch New Xbox Console

Microsoft: No Need to Launch New Xbox Console

This comes as a bit of a surprise to me, but I can’t say it was completely unexpected. Since the Xbox360 launched in 2005 and didn’t have the best of years in 2009, I expected to hear news about a new console during the year of 2010, but Microsoft recently said that a new console wasn’t necessarily coming soon.

“I think it’s important to say that the Xbox 360 is the console of the long future for us,” David Hufford, senior director of Xbox product management, told the Guardian.

“There is no need to launch a new console, because we’re able to give this console new life either with software upgrades or hardware upgrades like Project Natal.”

If you haven’t yet heard of Project Natal, it’s basically Microsoft’s motion sensor system.

“The Xbox 360 was designed for a long life,” Hufford adds, “and I don’t even know if we’re at the midpoint yet.”

Interesting. If they’re confident in what they’re saying, then it seems to me that the Xbox360 might just live to match the PlayStation 3′s 10 year lifespan. Looks like Xbox360 owners don’t have to worry about buying a new console just yet. I, for one, am excited to see what’s in store for the Xbox360 now, after this announcement from Microsoft.

Little buddy I know we have an agreement that we don’t edit each others stuff, but I have to point out an error

Xbox’s are sh!t and will break after more than two minutes of use. So xbox users will be buying another console… another xbox360. :D~

    lol Fatbob!
It’s technically not buying another Xbox360 because the warranty lets you get a replacement console for free

And you know what I meant anyway you noob. Don’t be a fanboy!

Yeah but the warranty probably works on Microsoft time. It says it lasts 2 years but only lasts 2 minutes. :P
