MMO’s For Console: The Market Is Untapped, And Ready For The Taking!

MMO’s For Console: The Market Is Untapped, And Ready For The Taking!

The console market is really cool, if you’re into playing games for a couple of hours with friends and stuff. To be honest, the console market doesn’t exactly touch the MMO market with comparison to the amount of hours played and invested into a game.

At the moment, MMO’s are unique to the PC market and it’s a pay-to-play experience. Games such as World Of Warcraft have millions are players who all give up a small portion of money to run around leveling up and raiding.

Over the next few years we’re in for change, as Hubert Thieblot, CEO of Curse said that there is a huge opportunity in the MMO-Console market.

“I’m personally really looking forward to console MMOs, because when you think about it, if 50% of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners are online, that means that there are nearly 35 million next-gen consoles able to run an MMO now,” he said. “That’s already three times bigger than the PC MMO market — the hardcore PC market. I’m really looking forward to seeing who is going to take the MMO market on console, because that spot is available right now.”

35 million consoles MMO ready? Three times bigger than the PC market? This is a money fountain waiting to happen, so whats the hold up?

Well, at the moment you kinda pay to play on the Microsoft Network, and if companies created pay-to-play MMO’s that would mean that Microsoft would lose money. So, this means that until Microsoft and Sony can find a way to get a cut of gold from MMO’s, it will still be an untapped market.

This will happen, we just need to be patient.

Well, there has been a couple console MMOs, Final Fantasy XI and Phantasy Star Online comes to mind specifically, and they’ve done pretty well from what I remember. So… yeah, odd how there hasn’t been anyone to follow their footsteps for such a long time.

Final Fantasy XIV will be MMO though.

Yeah, I know about FF and stuff but generally MMO’s are unique to PC.

That article could have been a lot longer, but then it would include a whole lotta BS and avoid the point that it’s an untapped market.

But you are right for bringing those games up.. Comments for the win! :)
