Alan Wake rated T for Teen by ESRB

Alan Wake rated T for Teen by ESRB

I’m sure many of us were expecting upcoming Alan Wake, an atmospheric horror game, to be rated “M” for Mature. However, to our surprise, Microsoft have announced that Remedy’s highly anticipated Xbox360 exclusive title, Alan Wake, will carry a rating of T for “Teen”, courtesy of the Entertainment Software Rating Board. We haven’t gotten the official word from the ESRB, which usually tells us a bit about the game and their rating for it, we just know that Alan Wake will be rated Teen.

Theoretically, this should allow more customers a chance to pick up the game, but on the contrary we do know that a few gamers might be put off by the rating. Personally, I don’t mind if the game won’t have lots of gore and excessive swearing, because a game doesn’t need those things to be great, especially one like Alan Wake which has its intriguing story and pants-wetting atmosphere going for it.

Alan Wake will be releasing exclusively on Xbox360 on the 18th of May 2010 in North America. I’m guessing that the game will release in Europe and South Africa three days later on the 21st of May.

People are going on about the T rating but it means nothing, AC1 was rated M but contained almost no swearing or gore, it was just the concept that freaked censors out. With that in mind, Alan Wake is a writer, he doesn’t swear excessively like some Military mofo; and the concept of the story is something that every 13 yr old has seen already.
