Great article but when saying a game is the same as something before it just with better graphics, compare it to another series and not the games predecessor. Other than that I loved it, really got me thinking.

i agree with what uve said. what i want in the game industry is a new version (and upgraded in terms of game play and features) is cannon fodder and future cop.

those games were so awesome back in the day, but there isnt really anything like them these days... im sure something cool could be made using those types of game play

Great write up Toasty!

You make some really good points. Games today are mostly about polish, few games attempt innovation these days, but that could also be, in addition to what you've said, because of the recession. It would be too much of a risk to use money to do something new when there's a chance that it won't succeed...still, I wish developers would do it, because there's only so much generic games we can take before we get fed up.

Quoted from your article:
"Developers are too scared to do anything radical or new because they don’t know how it will be received by the stoics who ask for the new but still want the old."

That's a very, very interesting point. Many gamers always seem to want innovation, but when it comes along they always shoot it down horribly, not even acknowledging what it brought to the table. I know that games are really expensive these days, and people can't afford to use money on "tutorials to an experiment game" - in other words, an empty shell that doesn't last very long.

Your conclusion is definitely something to keep in mind, that people should be more accepting of games that try to do something new.

Great article, eager to see your future work - oh and welcome to the team!

Totally totally totally agree.

Most of the games are just repetitive action-packed golden oldies with better graphics.

People always talk about how awesome Prototype really is, however it was never a 'top pick' due to... lack of a better word.. poor graphics.

MW2 sure looks great, but COD4 with a few mods and no dedicated servers you say? How boring.

Good read though.
