Greenberg: No plans for 250GB Xbox hard drive except in bundles

Speaking to Joystiq recently at X10, Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Product Manager Aaron Greenberg suggested that the 250GB Xbox360 hard drive will mostly likely remain exclusive to limited edition bundles, such as with the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII bundle. “We did it with the Modern Warfare bundle, which, as people know, was a huge success, completely sold out,” he told Joystiq. “We’re excited to bring it back with the limited edition Final Fantasy bundle.” Aaron Greenberg said that the limited nature of the 250GB hard drive is “part of what makes it special.”

He also touched on the fact that a lot of the Xbox360′s functionality, like Twitter, Facebook, Netflix, and the Zune Video Marketplace, don’t store big files on the hard drive. “That said, we understand that game demos, a lot of the game add-on content does take up space.”

“We’re always evaluating,” he said, “but for now we feel like the 120 is serving us very well as the standard offering, and then having the 250 as a limited edition is a good balance.”

We’ll leave it up to the future to decide, but I think eventually they will increase the hard drive size. For now, though, it’s unlikely that you will be able to get a 250GB Xbox360 model outside of limited edition bundles.
