Preview: Heavy Rain — The Thriller From Quantic Dream

Heavy, freakin’ Rain. The PlayStation 3 exclusive which is also ready for launch will boost the boundaries of ‘intelligent gaming’.

Heavy Rain will be a thought-molesting — or provoking — dark and gripping thriller which has movie-like traits. It was said that you set the rules, and ultimately, you control the final outcome.

The story line is simple, and like we said above — it’s thriller based. This generally means that you’ll be in a small town where a killer is on the loose. Naturally, time will be running out and this is a massive problem.

You will be required to track, and take the offender down, but remember: every action has its own set of consequences — for example, too much fast food could lead to cholesterol, or something.

Like the name suggests, there will of course be Heavy Rain. It’s a thriller with a cliche setting for suspense. The game will see you situated on the East Coast of the USA where sons are going missing. Michael Jackson can’t be involved… Or can he? It’s a small town, MJ could be lurking.

Following on this, authorities are panicking like school girls while the general public are struggling to sleep at night. During the panic, Shaun Mars (no relation to Veronica Mars) goes missing. Predictably, time is running out and you have to save the kiddo.

You’ll be able to play a combination of four separate characters which include: Ethan Mars — the father, Madison Paige — a gutsy photographer who gets ‘in-too-deep’, Private Investigator Scott Shelby or FBI Agent Norman Jayden.

Of course they all have different roles, and you’ll be able to switch between them for different perspectives in the car. You will be required to use all of the information to crack the case.

Heavy Rain is said to be more than an adventure game, as you’ll be required to follow leads, crack skulls, make hasty decisions and finally, hurt young male thugs.

Quantic Dream has said that you’ll never play the same game twice, and you shape the game. Your decisions change the direction of the story completely. It’s a bold move, but very exciting. Overall, we’re excited for this game. Very excited, in fact.

According to the press release, the emotional journey will have you on the edge of your seat. Gripping stuff, isn’t it?

Pricing for the game will be around R700, and it will be launched later this month.
