Remedy: No Plans To Revisit Max Payne Anytime Soon
In a recent interview with VG247, Remedy Entertainment told them that they had no plans to revisit the Max Payne franchise after the release of upcoming, new IP and Xbox360 exclusive, Alan Wake. Oskari Hakkinen, the head of the franchise at the studio, said that they hoped that Rockstar would give it “their own interpretation”. He went on to say: “Max was a long process for us obviously as well.”
“We sold the IP to Rockstar who are now doing their interpretation of Max Payne. I haven’t seen it. I mean, I’ve seen the screenshots [of Max Payne 3], and you know what? Rockstar don’t make bad games.
“Rockstar make awesome games, and, rightly so, they’re going to make their own interpretation of Max Payne and it’s not going to be a Remedy game. But it’ll be awesome, because it’s going to be Rockstar.
“It’ll be interesting to play it and see their interpretation. [Remedy head writer] Sam Lake is the brainchild behind the Remedy version, so Rockstar should make their own interpretation of that.”
Max Payne 3 was originally meant to be released in December of last year, but it’s been delayed a number of times since then, now scheduled for a Q4 of 2010 release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox360, and is in the hands of Rockstar Vancouver for development. Alan Wake, on the other hand, will be released by Remedy on the 18th of May in North America and on the 21st of May 2010 in Europe and South Africa for the Xbox360.
Personally, I can’t say I’m really excited for Max Payne 3. I loved the first two games in the series and have many awesome memories of them. However, I’ve seen the screenshots and have done my research on what’s out there on MP3 and it just doesn’t look like Max Payne anymore. Although the sad part is that I’ll probably still end up playing it, because it’s Max Payne.
