Bethesda Announces Hunted: The Demon’s Forge

Today, Bethesda announced that they will be publishing an all-new game titled Hunted: The Demon’s Forge, which is a third-person co-op dark fantasy game. The game is currently set to release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox360 and is being developed by inXile Entertainment, the guys behind games like The Bard’s Tale, Baldur’s Gate, and Fallout.

“We are thrilled to be working with Bethesda Softworks on this upcoming release that takes us back to our roots,” says Brian Fargo, Founder of inXile Entertainment. “Bethesda’s track record speaks for itself and the game we are developing for them is no exception.”

“inXile has an extremely talented team and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them working on one of our upcoming titles,” says Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks. “We believe gamers will be really excited about what these guys have in store for them.”

The game follows two mercenaries (which is where the “co-op” comes in), E’lara and Caddoc, who decide to investigate the reasons for villagers mysteriously vanishing – and they intend on finding out where these villagers have gone to. The two mercenaries will have a dangerous and difficult journey, where they’ll see death, slavery, and sacrifice, as the world of Kala Moor is going through a time of darkness. In their quest, E’lara and Caddoc must discover the secrets of The Demon’s Forge.

E’lara and Caddoc will work together in combat, as E’lara is an expert in ranged weaponry, while Caddoc is the sword master, the one who gets up close and personal. The pair will utilise a variety of weapons, magic spells and tactics to succeed. A large focus of the game is on the co-operative element of these two characters, so you can expect the game to be filled with co-op action and puzzle solving.

“We looked at a lot of co-op games that were out there, and we found that they did a lot of tethering of the players,” inXile’s Michael Kaufman told Destructoid during a demo last week at the Game Developers Conference. “We took a different approach; we wanted to spread the players out, use the environment, use the world. So the spells and skills that we created are based on these ideas.”

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge will be powered by the Unreal Engine, and will be releasing on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox360. There’s no release date or in-depth information on the game just yet, but we’ll be watching closely.
