MSSA Gauteng LAN Registrations Now Open — Be Fast, Be Good

The 2010 MSSA Gauteng LANs Championships are now open. The period will run from now until the 21st of March, and after this no late entries will be accepted… Or Colin might get angry.

Players wishing to compete in these devilish-MSSA events are asked to sign up as soon as possible so that they can be archived into the hell-hole that is the MSSA.

Championship Details:

  • Hosting Club: Pr0NHS Northcliff High School
  • Venue: Northcliff High School
  • Date: 3rd & 4th April 2010
  • Entry Fees: R50.00 per Registered Player per Period
  • Schedule: The LAN Schedule for all 2010 LAN Championships will be released by the MSSA eSports Board of Control shortly and will be available from here.
  • Rules and Regulations: All Rules and Regulations pertaining to eSports are available from here. Players are strongly advised to familiarise themselves with the LAN League Bylaws and all Period Specific Rules. The Period Specific Rules will be released by the MSSA eSports Board of Control shortly. If any Player wishes to provide advice regarding the drafting of the Period Specific Rules they are encouraged to contact the eSBoC who will take all comments into account: mssa.cgboc@mssa-cgboc.org.

The following Periods may be played in MSSA’s 2010 Gauteng LAN Championship:

  • Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  • FIFA’10 (PS3)
  • Guitar Hero 5 (Xbox360)
  • Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
  • Warcraft III: Defense of the Ancients
  • CounterStrike 1.6
  • Quake LIVE

The following Medals may be awarded at the MSSA’s 2010 Gauteng LAN Championship:

  • PREMIER: Medals shall be awarded to the first three players who are registered players.
  • SCHOLARS: Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars, provided they have not received any Premier medals.
  • UNIVERSITY:Medals shall be awarded to the first three players who are currently registered at any officially recognised University, provided the players have not received any Premier Medals.
  • WOMEN: A Medal will be awarded to the first woman player who did not receive any other medal.

Colours and National Team Trials:

  • Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a Provincial Championship, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn Provincial Colours.
  • National Team Trials: All Players that score within the top 20% or top three places, whichever is greater, in a specific Period at a Provincial or National Championship will earn an invitation to National Team Trials. National Team Trials shall be held in the event that a National Team must be selected to represent South Africa when competing in such Period in an International Championship.

To assist in the registration process, Mind Sports South Africa’s volunteers have developed a new Championship Manger. The system provides the following functionality:

  1. Users can create an account to protect their confidential personal details
  2. Each User can register one or more Players with MSSA (This is useful for those Team Managers/Captains who wish to register all the Players in their Team). Player registration must be completed annually and enables those players to be allowed to compete in MSSA Championships – such Players are referred to as Registered Players.
  3. Each User can enter a Registered Player or a Team of Registered Players into a specific Championship.

Thing that scares me about these events are… They actually choose the right games. Only if events like rAge could follow, dammit.

Thank you for the compliment Nitrate :).

The reason why the right games are chosen is because it is the players who are selecting the games via their club’s representatives on the MSSA eSports Board of Control. I am open to correction, but I don’t believe that any other organisations allows the games to choose the games played in their LAN/Online Tournaments.

I suppose I should expect the traditional flaming to follow this post, but I did want to make my point.

I don’t think people will flame… Or come back to reading this.
