Portal 2 Details, Multiplayer Co-op, New & Familiar Characters

There are hardly any official details currently on Valve’s eagerly anticipated ultimate sequel, Portal 2. However, we’re in luck, as it seems that retailer GameStop have gotten some pretty big details on the game, even a supposed release date, and have included them in their product description. GameStop suggests that Portal 2, for the PC and Xbox360 (no word on the probability of a PS3 version), will be releasing on the 26th of October 2010, which, if it’s true, is simply awesome in every way.

The full product description reads as follows, which provides some great details on the game, such as the fact that it will include a co-op multiplayer mode, dynamic new characters for the single player mode and fresh new puzzle elements.

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007′s Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

I can hardly believe that Valve are going for a co-op mode, I mean, thinking up and designing the puzzles for the first game is damn impressive as it is, imagine crafting new puzzles for two players. One hell of a task. Let’s leave it up to Valve to deliver another masterpiece.

    my question… how the hell do we get this locally?

    @SairenSA

    I’ll tell you. :grin: I stand to be corrected, but I don’t think the standalone version of Portal 1 came to South Africa, but you were able to get your hands on it by purchasing The Orange Box or by importing it from one of our local retail sites, such as Take2.co.za (the USA/UK sides) :razz:

    For Portal 2, I’m guessing that if Valve decide to make The Orange Box 2, that will definitely come here. Otherwise, judging by the monumental success of the first game, I’m fairly positive that Valve will try to get the game out in more places, so I’m guessing that we will see the standalone version of Portal 2 (if there is one) being released in more regions, like South Africa.

    Worst case scenario would be having to import it, but I don’t think we’ll end up having to. :razz: As soon as release date information from Valve and such is released on Portal 2, we’ll bring the word.
