eGameFame: Ettienne “DaeJaVoo” Venter — It Ain’t Cool Enough For Him
Ettienne believes that if it’s stock, it ain’t good enough. His desire and passion has made him one of the best modders in South Africa. His full name is Ettienne “Daejavoo” Venter and he is 23 years old. Hailing from Pretoria in Gauteng.
Behind every great person is a story, and here we’ll delve into his life. A persons passion is like dry wood, just waiting for the right spark. This was the case with Ettienne, reading one article in a UK magazine called custom PC. The article revolved around a mod called the Orac. The Orac mod, at the time, was one of the best. After seeing the Orac article, a quick spark lit Etienne’s passion and so began the desire.
His 1st mod is simply stunning and one of the best in the local scene. Termed Project Epiphany, a design which used a simple clear case. Etienne modified every aspect of it, resulting in one simply stunning case. But being his first case it was the hardest. Going in with no tool, no experience, no knowledge and no materials did not make it any easier for him.
Ettienne’s path of modification was extended after an accident which grounded him to his bed.
Once into the scene he was completed immersed. He began working on modding everything from notebooks to keyboards. Of his many mods, one included a notebook with a touch screen.
One of the greatest perks for this job would be sponsors. Sponsors send you all the tools and materials you need. If you have to ever cough up a little money, it’s just lunch.
Modding is not the be all and end all for Ettienne, he is interested in skateboarding, and solving Rubik’s cubes. A simple deduction: Ettienne likes a challenge.
He has had his work featured in PC Format, and more, but more interesting he is currently working on a mod for NAG magazine. The requirements will see him build a specially modded case to be given away, alongside the dream machine, at this year’s rAge.
DaeJaVoo hopes to see the local scene grow due to the easy access to materials of plexi and aluminium, where services like CNC work and laser cutting are not too hard to find. The local scene was very active a few years ago but sadly it dropped, he hopes to see it re-grow as he was also one of the people who went silent for a period.
