Nintendo Says Wii 2 Is In Planning Stages
Within a few months, the PS3 will have its Move and XBox will have its Natal. What this means for the Wii is that it will lose its dominion over the motion control gaming sector and possibly become redundant since nobody wants to play games in Standard Definition and poor graphics when they play them in HD for the same price.
It has therefore become something of a mystery what will happen to the Wii. Will it shape up and survive or will it fall from its plush pedestal? Head of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, was able to shed some light on this. He claims that the minute a console is complete, they begin work on its successor. This does not mean that the much rumoured Wii HD will be hitting us any time soon but Iwata rather said that there is a still plenty of work to be done on the current console. In other words, there is still more that can or needs to be done on the current Wii.
“As soon as a new system is complete – from the very moment it is complete – we’re thinking about the plan for the next game machine,” said Iwata at a recent Q&A session. “We believe there’s still more we can do with the Wii.”
Iwata has also confirmed that the Wii is in the planning stages. Despite this, Nintendo’s US boss, Reggie Fils Aime, maintains that Nintendo will only consider the Wii 2 realistically when a developer comes to them with an idea that can’t be executed on the current Wii.
It’s anybody’s guess how much longer the good old Wii will be around for but it definitely needs to come soon before nintendo loses its fanbase to the big bad next-gen behemoths.
