More PS2 Re-Releases Planned For PS3?

Sony may be in the process of bringing more PS2 classics to the PS3 like it did with God of War.

Earlier this year, Sony released God of War 1 & 2 for the PS3. The games came on a single Blu-ray and were both reworked in HD. I have played the God of War Collection, as it has been called, and certainly hope that they do more like it. The great thing about it is that there’s even Trophy support.

Sony are currently conducting a survey with select customers via e-mail where they ask the participants to select from a list of possible games to be re-released for the PS3. What’s great about this list is that among the contenders are Shadow of The Colossus and Ico. Other greats that I would love to see remade are the first 3 MGS games and the first two Prince of Persia games.

What game would you like to see reworked in HD and brought out for the PS3?

Love this idea! Iv just bought the GOW collection (1+2) coz i wanted to play them before i got GOW 3, and i never had a PS2…

Would make life a hell of a lot easier if they just made all PS3′s backward compatable… and a lot cheaper… i know they wouldnt be upscaled and have trophies, thats quite a big selling point to me…

    LOL@ Alot Cheaper :P

Well, Strega, I believe they removed backward compatibility in order to reduce the price of the PS3  I bought a launch model, so I have full backwards compatibility

It would be nice though, if they did still have it. But ah well, HD versions of awesome games is cool ;-)

Ok thats a good point, If they did remove backwards compatability to make it cheaper, then i cant argue  And yes HD versions of the classics is awesome…

But… I want to then know why my 80gig cost relatively the same as your (im presuming here) 60 gig, with backward compatability…

It seemed to me that there was no drastic drop in the price… it sort of dwindled down from like 6k at first to around 4 where it is now (if not less….)

That’s also a good question. I’m not 100% sure, I’ll have to double check, on whether they removed backwards compatibility to reduce the price of the console/production costs.

But the reasons they, Sony, also supplied were basically along the lines of: their studies showed that 80-90% of people were only buying PS3 games, and so they changed their focus to that. Also, regarding the PlayStation Slim model, they said: “the new model is no longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 titles, reflecting both the reduced emphasis placed on this feature amongst later purchasers of PS3, as well as the availability of a more extensive line-up of PS3 specific titles.”

So it’s also the matter of managing PS2 games and getting them all to work nicely on the PS3. And of course, they want people to focus on PS3 games instead of PS2 games.

The PS3 was hellishly expensive when it first launched, but now it has practically halved in price, and you can get it for close to the price of an Xbox360, I think it’s about R500-R1000 more depending on bundles and deals etc.

The PS3 has received a few price drops over time, but I suppose with your PS3 it’s basically the bigger hard drive that you’re paying for – did you buy it when it first came out, the 80GB model? Because now you can get 120-250GB models in bundle packs for just over 3.5k-4k, which is pretty cool.

Prices in SA are also questionable :P Hehe

Trust me im not happy about the slim model launch… :x

I bought mine probably 6 months befor the Slim was announced and i payed exactly what the slim launched for… ok so i got 6 months more enjoyment but i was a little ticked off…

Cant believe how cheap they are now… Also got me an HD TV over the weekend  They also come down in price a hell of a lot… Cant believe i ever gamed without one

There was a time when they released backwards compatibility for certain games with every update but they seem to have stopped that too. I suppose they stopped it because they’ve had this in mind all the time, sneaky bastards.

You probably right… Why let us play PS2 games on our PS3′s when they can just make us buy them again
