Sony Could Just Revolutionise Splitscreen
Sony may have just devised a way to single-handedly revolutionise splitscreen gaming. Consider that the biggest problem with splitscreen is that the more people you have playing, the smaller and smaller you bit of the screen gets and in the case of shooters or games where you have to kill your friends, all you need do is glance over at their portion of the screen to figure out where they’re camping.
Now consider that Sony recently filed two patents which will use the same technology which ouputs stereoscopic 3D images. The twist is that the new tech allows for two people to view different images being output by the same display. By adding a switch to the glasses which stops the shutters from alternating, users can select one of two flickering images which will be overlaid on top of each other. So basically, you stop the shutters in one position and you see picture A, you stop in another position and you see picture B.
If perfectedand super-sized for at least 4 different images, this will truly revolutionise, offline multiplayer. It also means that everybody who’s playing gets the full screen which is like having 4 TV’s for the price of one. It also means that if you wanna game while somebody else in your household wishes to watch TV, no problem. They can watch Oprah in 3D while you decimate the Helghast in 3D.
