Cool Gadgets We’d Love To Buy But Can’t Afford

Everybody loves gadgets right, I mean, who doesn’t? They’re cool, shiny, amazing and make life simpler and/or better. But there are some that are just the coolest, or the shiniest and are so amazing that they blast your mind into tiny little pieces.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the coolest gadgets in the gaming world. Some are just really cool peripherals or pieces of tech while others take the concept of over-the-top to a whole new level and there’s one that will steal your heart. Just click on ‘more…’ and you request shall be answered.

.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Accessories

They may not be insanely amazing but every one of these custom accessories designed for the upcoming game is awesome and looks great. Personally, that mouse makes me want to be a PC gamer. Put my name down for one of those dog-tag flashdrives.

There’s no word on whether any of these will be making their way to SA but let’s hope so.

Thrustmaster Ferrari Wireless GT Cockpit 430 Scuderia Edition

This is one of those peripherals that redefines your commitment to a genre, like an intense FPS junkie who may chop off their pinky because it causes too much drag (not that it does) and reduces efficiency (ditto). Here we have a PS3 / PC peripheral designed for racing games. it makes use of a latency-free 2.4 GHz system that runs off 4 AA batteries with 50hrs of battery life.

The racing wheel features a fully adjustable rigid metal structure with a 1:1,4 scale replica of the steering wheel from a Ferrari F430. the wheel includes working paddle-shifters and a ‘genuine’ Manettino dial with 5 positions for configuring the wheel on the fly. it also features a 10kg base for stability and compact folding design for mobility and easy storage.

All this for a meagre $250 or R2000.

Observe, the amazing transforming racing wheel.

Wii Bowling Ball Peripheral

The Wii has enjoyed some truly horrendous peripherals and some freakishly ridiculous ones (remember those wings). This is why this one makes it onto the list. It’s actually pretty cool and has been modelled after a real bowling ball complete with 3 finger-holes. It even opens up for you to place the Wii remote inside. It even comes in a shiny electric-blue colours.

Power A PS3 Controller

It’s the console’s weakest point. The PS3 would be damn near perfect if not for its rather poorly designed controllers. they do the job fine enough but are nowhere near as comfortable or ergonomic as the Xbox 360′s. This is why the Power A PS3 Controller is undeniably the must-have accessory for any PS3 owner.  It is based on the design of an Xbox 360′s control and is therefore very comfortable. It is also very ergonomic and even has non-slip covers on the grips.

The only real downside is that the controllers don’t have those great shoulder button triggers that the 360′s ones do. Instead they still have the standard dumpy ones found on your stock PS3 controller. But they’re still great and are wireless with full Sixaxis technology.

No price yet  but they will hopefully be making their way to SA soon.

It features distortion-free base and 6 inputs so that you can provide clear cut sound for any device of your choosing. For keeping tabs on the system , there’s a digital control panel as well as a wireless remote, for your convenience.

Performance Designed Products’ AfterGlow Controllers

Yes, glow in the dark controllers may sound a little pubescent but they are just cool. Thanks to LED lights placed in these transparent controllers, they glow in the dark and come in versions for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. each different consoles controls glow a different colour with the configuration of both the PS3 and Wii controls having been changed a little for more a more ergonomic design.

Should our gaming world be illuminated by these controllers, they should cost around R400 – R500. Still don’t understand why they’re cool? They glow in the f**king dark, that is awesome. Capiche?

The Golden Wii

Whenever a list like this pops up, it doesn’t matter whether we’re talking car accessories, gaming accessories or sex toys, there’s bound to be one thing that’s golden and shamefully expensive. this is that one thing on our list. It’s a Golden Wii (not unlike the one that you produce on a regular basis) that has been designed and made by Stuart Hughes in collaboration with Goldstriker (the company that will cover anything in gold if you ask right).

It uses 2.5kg of solid 22ct gold and a total of 19.5ct (weight) worth of diamonds scattered around the console. There were only 3 made for a price-tag of only £299, 995 (R3.6million) each. That probably makes these the most-expensive videogame consoles ever.

Razer Inc. Onza Xbox Controller

Razer is a household name when it comes to quality gaming equipment for your PC but what of its console ventures? It debuted a controller for the Xbox 360 earlier this year and much like the Power A PS3 controller is just light-years better than the original.

each analogue stick can be tweaked for variable resistance thanks to a dial under each, this allows for great accuracy in any game that requires precision such as shooters or even some racers. there’s also an additional third shoulder button on each side which can be set to replicate the function of any other button on the controller. Say goodbye to the annoyance of having to click those analogue sticks in. there’s also a D-pad which is aid to be miles better than the old one and good news for any fan of fighting games and there phalanx of D-pad-themed combos.

If this should reach South African shores, it will cost you about R800 but you will be getting your money’s worth for a precision gaming instrument.

The Greatest Show On Earth

That’s what the owner of this mammoth home entertainment system calls it. It features 16 subwoofers, 8 tower speakers, 10 tweeters, 3 centre channel speakers and all powered by a set of 35 amps. There are various media-playing devices including a PS3 and at the very centre of it all is a colossal 18ft screen. The largest to ever be installed in a home.

At a cool $6million, you’d better do something amazing with your life or start saving every penny you earn if you ever want something like this.

This is it, the most amazing gadget that you can possibly have as a gamer and possibly as a human being. it is so insane that at first, I didn’t believe that something like it could even exist.

NovelQuest specialises in creating innovative and exclusive products for those who can afford them.

This is their Emperor workstation. Basically a super-PC setup.

It features 3 19” LCD displays with a combined resolution of 3840 x 1024 with a 2ms refresh-rate.

Follow the link for the full list of specifications

I realise that some of these features, specifically the system specs may seem a little too close to average or low-tech for today’s standards since the workstation is over a year old but you can upgrade it to the hilt and turn it into a real machine.

all of this can be controlled by a 7” LCD touch screen control centre that is both OS and power independent and allows you to control chair position, adjust lighting, direct air flow and manage sound in addition to startup/shutdown and more.

It’s comfortable, can be powerful and is definitely the chair that you wanna rule the world from. At $40,000 (R320,000) you need to just to have one. And there’s no risk of getting jaundice.
