GamesCom 2010: PS3 Hits 38Million Units Sold

The Ps3 has just reached 38million units sold worldwide since its release in 2006. The console just recently became profitable after almost 3½ years of causing Sony to lose money and has slowly been edging up to the Wii and Xbox 360 in both regional and global sales.

To date, the Xbox 36 has sold around 42.5million units since its release but consider that it had already sold 5million by the time the Ps3 came out. If we take both console’s sales from the time that the Ps3 was launched up to the present, the Ps3 is effectively slightly ahead of the Xbox. Ultimately, the PS3 is closing the gap and will soon take the top spot in console sales.
