Has The PS3 Finally Been Hacked?

It seems as though hackers might have finally cracked Sony’s black beast machine – the PS3. That is, if a recent YouTube video turns out to be the real deal.

A group of hackers have created a little product they call PSJailbreak. This ‘modchip’ is a USB dongle that has certain software which allows users to copy games to the console’s hard drive and play the backup games.

An Australian modchip seller, OzModChips, received a PSJailbreak modchip and posted a video of the device doing its thing.

Let it be noted that Sony has, in the past, released firmware updates that removed features from the PS3. Also, it has taken quite a few years to show this kind of progress, so once again it could possibly be a simple affair for Sony to release a firmware update and get the better of the hackers.

Time will tell. Check out the video below.

There’s bound to be implications of doing this sort of thing. Some sort of feature or something that doesn’t work properly or something. Also, you’re limited to about 10 games or less, depending on what size HDD you have and have to actually get the originals from somewhere to copy it but hey, it’s a start.
