There Is Finally An Official Tetris World Champion

Yesterday Los Angeles’ Downtown Independent Theater became a part of history as ,29-year-old loan co-ordinator from Redondo Beach California, Jonas Neubauer was crowned the first-ever Classic Tetris World Champion.

Over 200 Tertris players showed up to test their skills against the best the world had to offer at the Classic Tetris World Championship which was organised by former Nintendo World Champion and Tetris expert Robin Mihara and sponsored by Tetris licensing management company Blue Planet Software.

Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov was on hand, keeping tabs on the action as the 200-plus players were moved down to eight in the semi-finals.

Neubauer defeated Harry Hong, a 25-year-old logistics specialist from Los Angeles, to bring home the giant trophy and $1,000 prize.

The prize may be a small sum that can be blown in no-time, but the prestige is monumental and will last till the end of time.

Platform? Version? Any replays? Once posted this on the forum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_tmFUWu9bI , would love to see how mind-blowing the actual champ plays compared to the insane stuff in the vid.

It was the classic NES version of the game.
As for replays…those are proving difficult to find, but I’ll look around.
