Gearbox Owns Duke Nukem IP Now
Gearbox Software has announced that it now owns the Duke Nukem IP.
A statement posted up on the Gearbox community forums says that “full intellectual property rights of the ‘Duke Nukem’ brand including Duke Nukem Forever and all future projects in a cooperative deal made with 3D Realms.”
On Friday, Duke Nukem Forever was confirmed to be complete and it featured at PAX 2010.
“Fifteen years ago, Duke Nukem 3D helped launch my professional video game development career,” said President of Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford.
“The Gearbox Software team and I are ecstatic that we have grown to a position to be able to pick up and carry the torch and help Duke rise back to glory in his time of need.”
George Broussard, 3D Realms boss, added: “Gearbox was the only home appropriate for the Duke Nukem brand. They are very talented and possess the perfect perspective and understanding of the brand.
“Their vision for its future direction is exciting and unbelievable. This will be a win-win situation for everyone involved, especially the fans.”
An unbelievable future is ahead for Duke Nukem Forever and future projects? Now that sounds interesting.
A final line says: “Duke Nukem Forever will bring players back into the Duke Nukem universe with memorable ass-kicking mayhem for the millions of fans who have been anticipating its arrival over the past decade.”
Duke Nukem Forever will be released in 2011 on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox360. I really wonder if Duke Nukem Forever could possibly be worth the anticipation of a decade. But I guess to fans it won’t really matter, as long as they get it.
