LittleBigPlanet 2 Is The New LEGO

As a little kid, I loved LEGO. There was so much that you could do with it and the only thing holding you back was your own imagination. It really did open our minds and expand our imaginations. Hell, I still have a toy-box full of the stuff just for the nostalgia of it and I know Tody does too.

What I’m trying to say is that LEGO defined this generation, which includes most of the people who might read this. Is LittleBigPlanet 2 therefore capable of being the new LEGO? Is it the step-up from those LEGO sets that we all used to play with?

That’s what Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans seems to think or, as he put when asked by PSM3whether he considered LBP2 to be the LEGO of this generation: “You’re the first person who’s got it!”.
“I’ve been explaining to people, they ask, ‘Can I build X? Or can I build Y?’ And the answer is yes,” Evans continued.

“That’s what Mark the Creative Director is great at doing – seeing the requests that we get daily, like ‘can we have this feature, or that feature,’ and sorting it out.”

“We have discussions internally. I said to Mark: I really want to be able to make an RPG, can we have an RPG kit. He says you can already do it with LittleBigPlanet 2.”

Basically, LittleBigPlanet 2 lets you make what you want, where you want, how you want, in any colour you want. It’s like when you used to construct buildings and cars and all kinds of stuff with your LEGO and then proceed to play with it in some sort of childish narrative except in the case of LBP2, playing with what you’ve made is frickin’ awesome.
