Sony Will Offer Two Free PS3 Games For PSN Breach, 2500 Names And Addresses Released Online
Sony has revealed that over the past few days the PlayStation Network hackers have actually released names and partial addresses of 2,500 members connected to the network. The site was removed by Sony once discovered, however it proves that the hackers do indeed have some the information they claim to possess.
The details obtained and published in this instance were from users who entered into a 2001 sweepstakes contest. According to Sony, the publication of the details, which did not include credit card information, did no damage and caused no harm.
Following the news on the information leak, Sony has missed the PlayStation Network planned restart date and this has lead to a postponement. No date has been set for the restart of the network.
Also, Sony has announced their “apology” for the breach of the network. The Japanese company will offer subscribers two free PlayStation 3 games when the system goes live once again.
According to Sony Europe spokesperson Nick Caplin, PSN members will be able to choose two games from a total of five PlayStation 3 games. They will get these titles for free as an apology. PSP users, on the other hand, will be able to choose two titles from a total of four possible choices.
Unfortunately Sony did not reveal the games players will get to choose from, however this information is expected to be released soon.
