Now This Is A High Score [Interview]
Yesterday we asked you what was your best score in a game, and today we’re going to make that score seem entirely insignificant, but help you to achieve even better in the process.
Meet Raymond Cox. Gamertag: Stallion83.
He is the current Guinness World Record holder for GamerScore on Xbox 360, and he is aiming to be the first person to “achieve” a million points.
Meanwhile, the rest of the world doesn’t really care. Except they do, because this guy is a right proper example of what Dean would call “winning“, regardless of the relevance of his victory.
Now, before we lose the PS3 gamers, the object of this exercise is not to display someone with an inflated amount of GamerScore, though that helps to lead into the interview that he recently gave:
Start Early
If you’re hoping to catch Stallion83, keep in mind that he’s been amassing Achievement Points since the day Xbox 360 landed almost six years ago. “I got my first achievement from Hexic HD, the game that came free on Xbox 360′s hard drive. I was hooked. ”
Have a Long Term Plan
Currently on just over 600,000 points, Cox believes he’ll hit the million in two or three years, making it almost a solid decade of Achievement-hunting.
Play Loads of Games and Don’t be Fussy
“I’ve played over 900 games, including Arcade. I’ll play anything and everything that comes out. Obviously I go for the games I’ll like first, as soon as they come out, but I get around to playing mostly everything.”
Don’t Sweat the Competition
Cox believes he will be the first to hit a million points. “I have rivals but they are a behind me. If I stopped playing today, it would probably take them a couple of months to catch up. But I don’t spend time worrying about that.”
Have a Really Cool Girlfriend
“We have been together for about 7 years. She gets it. She digs it. She’s busy doing things in her life. But I make sure not to spend my whole life playing games. It helps that I’m number one. If I was number two and spending so much time on this, she might be, ‘What the hell are you doing?’”
Don’t Waste Too Much Time Working At Your Job
Cox helps out with his family’s business, and does not need to hold down a full-time job, leaving him extra time to play games. “I actually see this as kinda like my job. It’s a good job and it’s one that I enjoy.”
Have a Life
As well as working and girlfriend-time, Cox has other interests besides playing games. “I like to get out of the house, go exercise. It can’t take over your life.”
Put in the Hours
“I play every day. Some days it’s just a few hours, and then I’ll go on a stretch of playing seven or eight hours a day.”
Everyone loves achievements. I myself am quite the achievement whore, and proud of it. Be sure to check out my column on achievements if you haven’t already, and then let us know what you think about the topic, here.
