5 Games That Need A Sequel

Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Full Throttle and Psychonauts; what do they all have in common? Well they’re all the products of that zany brain child Tim Schafer; that and they’re all brilliant examples of what a game is meant to be. The thing about Psychonauts is that playing it just made me want a sequel above all else is; actually, I think it perfectly lends itself to a sequel. Monkey Island has done its job and the other adventures ended perfectly; but for Pyschonauts, well I want more. The insane premise of Psychonauts and frankly brilliant character delivery made it seem like an episode straight out of Invader Zim; or spiritual successor to Earth Worm Jim. Even better was it did everything about a semi-free roam platformer right and there’s so much potential to expand on that with current-gen consoles.

Give it a crisper Saturday morning cartoon look, full it to the brim with the same voice talent that gave us the original and don’t hold back on the story; I promise it’d blow your mind (pun intended).

So that’s my little list, though I’d love to have been able to add so many more; I might just do that actually. Anyway, let me know what you think and what I missed out. Do you agree with these and do you think sequels would ruin the memories we so dearly cherish. Or are you like me and want a sequel to every game you ever loved, despite the possibility some may suck. I know I’d give up Adam’s right arm to get these made, what would you give up?

    haha, I haven’t played any of those titles. xD

    I started my JRPG venture pretty late, missing out on Chrono Trigger. :/ It’s the one game I feel really strongly about missing out on.

      Sadly though, I’ve got a sorta phobia for playing old-school games. After the advent of “awesome graphics”, I can’t find myself going back to play “older generation” games, no matter how epic they are. X_x

    Technically, Chrono Cross is the sequel to Chrono Trigger. But a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger would be cool. That game was the bomb.

    I haven’t played any of these either but I have heard a lot about them all and will definitely make an effort to try most of them. 
    The World Ends with You looks and sounds so intriguing and Chrono Trigger (almost mistook it for Chrono Crusade) sounds amazing and the characters were designed by Akira Toriyama so I definitely want to try those 2 out. Now I have to download an emulator again.
     An old friend of mine said many good thing about Abe’s Odysee and he was still playing it last year so I’ll have to find it or get it from him.
     I don’t know what I’m gonna do about Psychonauts and that’s the one I want to play above all.

      The point of my post was to declare my intention of playing most of these games. :D

    I played both Dungeon keeper games and #1 is def the better one. 
    One of the first pc games I owned :)

       I know some like the 2nd better than the 1st and others the 1st more than the 2nd, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that you played and enjoyed them; and I’m sure you’ll agree a sequel is in order

    Sadly, I’ve only played Oddworld out of these. I really enjoyed that one. Always been meaning to play Psychonauts, but I never got around to it unfortunately. There’s talk about a sequel to it though, isn’t there?

       There was but Double Fine (and more specifically Tim Schafer) have said that the problem is they can’t find a publisher willing to well, publish it. It’ll be a true shame if that’s the reason a sequel is never made.

    aaaah this brings back the memories, abe’s odyssey! played that on a pre-pentium computer aaaaages ago.

      And anyway, one was which franchises should be revived, another is what games should be remade and a few other along similar lines but none exactly the same.

    I just finished Chrono Trigger on my iPhone today! :D The best game, I cried a little when it was over…its true I WANT MORE, GIVE ME A SEQUEL!
    Psychonauts and The World Ends With You I haven’t played yet, will have to give them a try :)

    I haven’t played any of these games. I own the Oddworld series on Steam but haven’t had a chance to download it. I don’t play enough games, do I?

    Guys I need help, I want to LAN Dungeon Keeper 2 but I have this annoying Black letterbox glitch effect when I try to run it on Win 7, I’ve been Google’ing the problem for ages with no result to the solution. Anyone with the same problem?

       I remember having same problem, it has to do with one of the graphics settings; fiddle with those

    I agree with this list, definitely!! I’d love to see a chrono trigger sequel out asap, as well as the world ends with you! great read, brought back a lot of memories :) also , I was a pretty big fan of the breath of fire series (except 5 -.-) would like to see a awesome ps3 or xbox sequel for that too!

    I sometimes hate myself for not getting in to gaming earlier than I did. Well now all I can do is wait for the day when the games we know now are old classics haha.

    I’d love to see a remake of the Oddworld games. I downloaded Abe’s Exoddus on PSN and I love it. Can’t play it further because I’m freakin’ stuck on a hard part. But I would pay for a good modern sequel.
