Troy Baker: The Last of Us Protagonist To “Turn The Model Of The Hero On Its Ass”
Troy Baker, the voice actor for The Last Of Us protagonist Joel, told OPM UK that the hero in Naughty Dog’s new game is completely different to what gamers may be used to in other action games. He won’t fit the typical stereotype.
We’ve heard Joel being described as “a violent thug, a brutal killer and a torturer” before, and we heard more about him in the last reveal. But now we’re getting insight from the man who is bringing the character to life.
“He’s not a hero, he’s not a badass,” said Baker. If you don’t know who this man is, then you may want to double check who took on the role of Snow in Final Fantasy XIII, and its sequel, as well as Booker in BioShock Infinite.
“He’s a guy that learned how to use a gun because he had to, and he’s fighting every day because that’s what you do. Does that mean that [he] steals this, that [he] does this? Maybe. But it’s not that he has a plan, or that he’s a strong archetypal character.
“I really think it’s gonna turn the model of the hero on its ass.”
The Last Of Us will release on PlayStation 3 at the end of this year, or the beginning of 2013.
