Mass Effect 3 Spawns More Rage

It seems as if BioWare might have a tough few weeks ahead if this trend continues. Mass Effect 3 is barely out a few days and already the game has been review bombed and now there’s even more hate borne out of BioWare’s apparent laziness.

If you’re not up for a tiny spoiler or two then here’s a safe explanation of what happened. Basically, fans were outraged at the fact that BioWare seems to have used a stock image off Getty Images for a one of the game’s characters.

You may now return to  the sanctity of your underground bunker where you are free from a nuclear holocaust and spoilers.

Still here? Great, so Kotaku was hit with a barrage of e-mails from furious Mass Effect fans who discovered that BioWare got a bit cheap and lazy when it came to character designs for ME 3.

Fans will be familiar with Tali who has featured in both previous games but never removed her mask. Well, BioWare decided to give her a face and it is by all appearances a barely modified version of a stock image by photographer Matthew Leete, one which any Joe with a Getty Images account can gain access to.

“This HAS to qualify for some form of lazy art,” one gamer told us.

“Looks like more BioWare bullshit to me,” another gamer said.

I do find it strange that someone went out of their way to search for faults with the game and likely came across this. Or at least, that’s probably how word of this got out. That said, it would be of no consequences if BioWare didn’t want to design every little bit of artwork and photograpy in the game but using a stock image for a character such as Tali, a character whom players have interacted with for two games, wondering what is behind the mask, is poor form. It’s rather like discovering that the funny fat kid you know gets his material off the internet and actually wears a fat suit.
