And The Winner For “Worst Company In America” Is: Electronic Arts!

In what is undoubtedly a rags to riches story of a studio struggling to find its feet in the world, only to acquire Bullfrog, fuck it over and then become a mass conglomerate for all things gaming, Electronic Arts has been voted… wait, what? Really?

Yeah, believe it for not, gaming’s very own Electronic Arts has beat out such (evil mega) corporations as the Bank of America and fucking AT&T as “Worst Company in America” according to some 250,000 consumers.

Seriously?

Seriously.

You would prefer having your money stolen and your networks permanently down, so you could hate on a company that brought us such delights as the Need For Speed series, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Crysis, Battlefield and so much more.

Also: Online Passes. Fuck EA!

The Consumerist had the following to say: “To those who might sneer at something as ‘non-essential’ as a video game company winning the Worst Company In America vote: It’s that exact kind of attitude that allows people to ignore the complaints as companies like EA to nickel and dime consumers to death.”

“Consumerist readers ultimately decided that the type of greed exhibited by EA, which is supposed to be making the world a more fun place, is worse than Bank of America’s avarice, which some would argue is the entirely point of operating a bank.”

EA however, have shrugged off the award entirely.

Corporate communications senior director John Reseburg said: “We’re sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco, and weapons companies are all relieved they weren’t on the list this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.”

You tell ‘em, girl!

What, too ghetto?

I have something of a love-hate relationship with EA myself, after they gave us such amazing games as the aforementioned while also attempting to stuff such atrocities as Origin and Online Passes down our throats. All of this said, however, Electronic Arts as a business is probably one of the most successful of current times. Even the recent recession did nothing for their profits, as much as they would tell you otherwise.

Love them or hate them, EA are a very huge part of the reason why gaming is making leaps and strides forward into becoming… that horrible word: mainstream.

But more to the point, EA are the reason gaming will one day be taken seriously. Well, a part of the reason anyway. At least until they jump the shark and start releasing Dead Space FIFA titles or something.

What are your thoughts on EA? Deserving winners of the award, or a further example of American idiocy?

[Spoiler: That was a joke.]

The reason the bank didn’t win is because the corruption spread over a long time and most people forgot the real reason they hate it. That and most of the people who do internet voting are most likely not affected by the banks because their under 20… But the main reason EA won was because of all the complete failures these past few months and that’s still fresh in everyones minds

There’s something very strange going on with the words in this article but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

EA may eb bastards by gaming standards but they still do a whole lot of good and provide a ton of what we want, more or less. On the other hand, Bank of America is a soulless corporation that hasn’t made its customers happy in any way since its first few years of existence. In fact, with the recession still raging somewhat in the US and the banks being a big part of what went wrong and made it so bad, surely EA is a mere demonic imp compared to a Satanic demon lord of the order that Bank of America is.

    Then again, America, Fuck yeah!

I also have a love hate relationship with EA. After praising SWTOR for a long time, I have now come to realize its quite crap. there is no end game content and they have very crappy customer service. I know t more Bioware but EA owns them so sure they will have some power on them.

But ultimately as much as they give gamers what they want they also do what ever they want, and if what gamers want doesn’t suite them they don’t give a crap. just my 2c

I agree they are on the top 5 most hated Gaming dev companies in the world, but saying they are the worst company in the US is pushing it a bit…

I read a  few comments on another site where people said that Bank of America confiscates peoples homes for no apparent reason ect ect ect making EA seem like saints!! So how EA won just because of some empty promises is beyond me.

this is probably why they’re making the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut free

If Telkom or Eskom were American companies they’d rape EA for this prize. I was reading this and was like “bitch please, EA would be a shining beacon in SA.”

EA are a shining becon! All this proves is that people have no other purpose in life than to troll on companies continuously bringing us quality games, with the odd shit here and there :P But really, EA don’t deserve this, AT ALL!
