Counter-Strike: GO Gets Arms Race
Remember that mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops called Gun Game? How many of you actually know that the mode was initially a mod for Counter-Strike? Yeah, I thought so. Well, Valve seemed to have liked the mod so much that they’ve added the entire mode in Counter-Strike: GO, naming it Arms Race.
Arms Race keeps most of the traditional Counter-Strike elements intact — no regenerating health and headshots are practically instant kills — but trades some features for others. For instance, respawns are now instant and instead of purchasing weapons at the beginning of every round, players cycle through a variety of guns after each kill. If a player kills an enemy, they move up in the tier of weapons, moving from shotguns to assault rifles to snipers to pistols and eventually a knife.
The first player to cycle through all of the weapons secures victory for his/her team. Arms Race is aimed to be a very fast-paced, quick variant of traditional Counter-Strike gameplay, and it looks extremely fun. Maps are extremely small and offer nearly no camping space. Then again, camping in a mode like this is just stupid, because while you’re waiting for one kill another player is busy racking up three times as much. Sorry Dean.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is slated to release sometime this year on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
