DBNGamers 5th Event – We Were There
With the previous DBNGamers event being quite a success myself, Timothy and Caveshen frequented the latest event looking forward to a great time. This time around the event wasn’t held on Friday. Now it was on a Saturday, the 21st of April, at 14h00 in the afternoon. The venue, Pizzetta Pizzeria, was deep within the realm of Glenwood in an area known as Davenport; amidst a continuous row of restaurants that stretched beyond my line of vision. The theme for this fifth event was that of Star Wars, and sponsors had gladly supplied a Kinect once more and a copy of Star Wars Kinect which led to a mass of people congregating around the motion sensor wonder.
I thought that this time around the event was a more chilled experience much like Durban in general. It was quite refreshing just hanging out with fellow gamers whilst scoffing down some pizza and miscellaneous Italian food. When Timothy and myself arrived, we found Caveshen sauntering around outside like a social butterfly chatting to other gamers, and probably boasting about his gamerscore.
Everyone was seated all around and we just plonked ourselves down next to Caveshen and his friends. Most of what commenced that afternoon centred around gaming talk, nerdy chat and the inevitable glaring of eyes upon the treasure trove of Logitech and videogame prizes on show. After having a good meal, some drinks and general talks a few of the cohorts (no names mentioned) decided to go and battle it out on Star Wars Kinect. This involved some dance moves and Jedi mind tricks. Also, the hilarity of seeing Han Solo bust a move on-screen is both funny and horrifying at the same time. I will be scarred forever.
However, getting back on point. After some people finished off their Kinect ‘battle’, the guys from Mweb Gamezone gave a brief talk about what they do and offered some tips for Battlefield 3 players. Following this, the prizes were given out which were sponsored by Pinnacle Africa, Logitech and Mweb Gamezone. The prizes ranged from some videogame titles one of which Caveshen won, Need For Speed: The Run, and the other prizes which included a Logitech bundle (a top of the range keyboard, mouse and headset) as well as a lucky fan who won a CS GO Beta code. All of the prizes were awesome, and after the prize giving we continued chatting before the event eventually ended.
The fifth event was an awesome experience all round. It was nice to see familiar faces and catch up on the happenings in other gamers’ lives. I can’t wait for the next DBNGamers event and I hope to see many more of our Durban readers.
