Kratos Returns In God Of War: Ascension
After many, many rumours and tons of speculation as to what game Sony would be announcing today, Amazon decided to jump the gun and confirm that the next title coming from the Playstation 3 creators is God of War: Ascension. Amazon released the boxart and teaser trailer to the game a day before the official announcement from Sony, finally confirming all the rumours that God of War would indeed be getting a sequel on the Playstation 3.
However, I’m not sure many people expected it to be a prequel. God of War: Ascension seems to put players in control of a Kratos that has not yet pledged his life to Ares, previous God of War and the god you kill in the very first game. According to the teaser, it seems that the game will take place before Kratos has even been tricked into killing his family, giving a little bit of insight into his endeavors as a Spartan general.
“A time when in spite of the madness that plagued him, Kratos would break his blood oath to an unjust God. A time when he will no longer be bound in blood.”
It could be an interesting change for the franchise, to have a Kratos that is not completely pissed off all the time. Throw in some touch moments with his ultimately doomed wife and daughter, and God of War: Ascension could turn into a really emotionally charged narrative. You know, when you’re not pulling people’s eyes out and stuff.
With the official announcement happening later today, we could even get word of more gameplay or setting details and maybe even a release date. Stay tuned.
