Halo’s New Trilogy Will Span 10 Years
Bungie is done with Halo and so the mantle has been taken up by 343 Industries who will develop the next three games, titled the Reclaimer Trilogy. The studio’s Frank O’Connor says that the trilogy has been outlined to release over a ten year span.
Speaking to Game Informer, O’Connor admitted that some of the macro details have been mapped out but the stories for later games are a lot more flexible at present due to the possibilities that may come with new technology and certainly that makes sense since we should see the emergence of the next generation of consoles within the next 2 or 3 years.
“Story is funny because I’ve been thinking about where the Halo story goes for ten years. And even as a fan, I wonder, ‘what’s gonna happen next?’,” said O’Connor.
“We have things mapped out pretty far, probably about ten years, but they’re pretty vague, they’re big plot points. We think that X will happen, we think Y will happen, we think they should go visit Z. There’s a danger that you’ll get granular in your planning because if this was a novel, you could just write an end. But it’s not a novel.
“New technology appears and give you new opportunities, pieces of the sandbox end up being less or more popular than you might have expected. And so the constant shift in reality, never mind the technology of the gameplay content, should be the thing that defines your gameplay universe.”
Halo 4 will be out for Xbox 360 on November 6 worldwide and yesterday we got a glimpse of the game’s box art.
