Sony Wants To Pause Your Game And Display Ads

Sony Wants To Pause Your Game And Display Ads

Sony’s been having a tough year. They recorded their biggest loss in nearly 31 years, and things don’t seem to be getting any better. So what exactly are they expected to do? Sell more advertising? Yeah, that should work, but the way they might create more advertising space is not going to win them any fans.

A patent, discovered by webforum NeoGAF, was filed back in July 2011 under the moniker “Advertisement Scheme for use with interactive content.” This patent is some new ideas that some idiots of Sony have come up with, which will basically allow them to pause your game and display ads, like commercials on TV. Gamers will get a warning before the ad airs, but will have no control over whether or not they want to view it. The ad is designed to pause gameplay, display the ad then allow the game to resume afterwards.

This follows right on the heels of some other patents filed by Sony that seem to compliment this type of tech, so we may be looking at more than just rumours here.

Ads in my games? Sorry Sony, what numb nuts thought this was a good idea? Hang him.

So you wanna put ads in my games? How about I put a spanner in your eye? Do they really think pop-up ad in their games is gonna bring in enough cash to keep them afloat? You experience something similar in a lot of android apps but that’s because they’re free so you don’t actually mind. This is not desperation on Sony’s part, this is stupidity.

Who will get the money from these ads? Sony? I don’t think publishers will like that. Their game being destroyed with gameplay moments being broken so someone else can make money.

    Hmm.

Somehow I’m doubtful this will actually happen.
