Vita “Isn’t Very Strong” – Miyamoto
We usually expect the likes of Notch, David Jaffe, EA, Activision or some other such expressive and uninhibited individual to take potshots at other developers, rivals etc. but surely not Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto? Nope, not even he is above it.
Nintendo’s living legend claims that while the Vita boasts some good hardware, the handheld “a very strong product.” In a recent interview with EDGE Magazine, Miyamoto spilled on his low opinion of the console.
When asked his opinion of the Vita, he said, “It’s obviously a very high-spec machine and you can do lots of things with it, but I don’t really see the combination of software and hardware that really makes a very strong product.”
He added, “But I can’t really say.”
It’s a bit too late for that but maybe you can still redeem yourself.
He’d be an idiot not to acknowledge Nintendo’s own launch problems with the 3DS, which eh duly noted.. Miyamoto said, “When we launched the 3DS hardware we didn’t have Super Mario 3D Land, we didn’t have Mario Kart 7, we didn’t have Kid Icarus: Uprising. We were striving to have all of these ready for the launch, but we weren’t able to deliver them at that time.”
The 3DS started off slow as well and perhaps Sony didn’t get Vita off the ground with the right launch titles but there’s certainly no shortage of awesome titles coming its way over the next few months and sales should pick up soon just as they did in the early months of the 3DS.
