Was BioShock Infinite Delayed To Clear The Way For GTA V?
Late yesterday we told you that BioShock Infinite has been delayed to February 2013 but now the question is; was it delayed in order to clear the path for Grand Theft Auto 5 later this year?
This is the belief of industry analyst Michael Pachter, who said: “If (and that is a BIG ‘if’) there is any coordination within Take-Two among Rockstar and 2K Games, it makes a lot of sense that management would have shifted BioShock Infinite to make room for GTA V.”
Note well that anything Pachter says should be taken with a grain of salt as he isn’t exactly a patron of perfect prediction, but it’s still an interesting thought so let’s run with it for now, shall we?
“It’s entirely possible that the Rockstar team just committed to delivering GTA V on October 23 (write that in ink on your calendar), and Take-Two management thought it imprudent to launch their two biggest games of the year a week apart. I’m sure Irrational will make judicious use of the extra time, if the foregoing scenario is true.”
Uhm, Max Payne 3?
He added: “It’s also entirely possible that Ken Levine and Irrational have truly decided to make the greatest game ever, and it will merely take another four months to finish ;-)”
Way to cover your ass, sir.
Still, it’s entirely possible that GTA V could release this year as previously rumoured and if that is the case, expect loads of news come E3 in just under a month’s time. Until then, what are your thoughts? If indeed GTA V releases in October, would you have preferred it over Infinite? Do you think Rockstar ought to have waited it out a bit, perhaps? And what of other publishers with hopes for October releases, along the lines of EA’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Activision’s Black Ops 2, do they even stand a chance?
